POSTPONED: Southwest Veterans Tribal Healing to Wellness Court Training March 30-31, 2020 | Santa Ana Pueblo, NM
The Tribal Law and Policy Institute (TLPI) has been closely following recent events including the following developments over the last few days:
- World Health Organization (WHO) declaration of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak as a pandemic
- National declaration of a public health emergency
- New Mexico Governor Grisham’s declaration of a public health emergency in New Mexico
- Native Nations increasingly declaring public health emergencies and announcing travel restrictions
Supporting the health and well-being of American Indian and Alaska Native families, tribes, and communities is central to TLPI’s mission, and keeping people safe is paramount. It is with a heavy heart and a full understanding of the incredible work and effort on the part of so many people – which includes our event planning team, presenters, vendors, and participants– that we have decided to postpone the upcoming Southwest Veterans Tribal Healing to Wellness Court Training which had been scheduled for March 30th and 31st in New Mexico.
We will find a way to come together soon to share the important work of people and organizations who have worked with American Indian and Alaska Native veterans and Veteran Tribal Healing to Wellness Courts. However, currently, it is not safe to ask people to travel or to leave their agencies, families, and communities when things are so uncertain. At this time, we are exploring the feasibility of establishing new dates for this event as well as exploring the feasibility of instead providing a virtual event or events. Until this has been decided, we ask that presenters hold onto your presentations and everyone please be patient as we work things out. We will be sharing additional information shortly via email and at www.WellnessCourts.org.
We greatly appreciate your interest, participation, and engagement concerning the Southwest Veterans Tribal Healing to Wellness Court Training. Thank you for the time, effort, support, and resources that you devote to addressing the needs of American Indian and Alaska Native veterans, families, tribes, and communities.
